Make your own punching bag!
I was watching some Kung Fu movies one night and being the optimist I am, I thought to myself, "I can do that!" Theres just one problem, I needed something to practice with. After giving it lost of thought, the DIY Punching bag was born!
I made a trip to my local Army surplus store and looked at all the ruck sacks they had. I was surprised how inexpensive they were. I picked up one that was in great shape for $10. Score!
Let me show you how I made it. Check out the FULL BUILD VIDEO HERE to follow along.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
-Army ruck sack.
-Old clothing (enough to fill the ruck sack).
-Bag of play sand.
-Gallon sized Ziploc bags.
-Duct Tape.
-Vinyl coated hook (similar to THIS).
-Threaded cable (similar to THIS).
-Cable Clamps (similar to THIS).
TOOLS NEEDED:
-Knife or razor blade.
-Pliers.
-Drill and drill bit.
STEP 1.
Take knife or razor and remove all the straps from the ruck sack. This way you have a smooth surface to punch. Buckles and straps wouldn't feel all that great when you are punching and kicking the crap out of it.
STEP 3.
After you have all your kilos of play sand ready, stack them on top of each other and tape those together. This is going to form a solid core for the punching bag. It will give it weight so it doesn't fly around like crazy an will make it feel like you are actually punching something with some heft.
STEP 4.
There needs to be a soft bottom to the bag so pack the ruck sack about 1/4 full of the old clothing. This will give it a nice bottom if you decide to kick the bottom of the bag and not break your toes if you hit the sand bags.

STEP 2.
Take 3 or 4 of the gallon sized Ziplock bags and fill them with the play sand. After they are full, they need to be wrapped in duct tape until it looks like you are preparing to smuggle kilos of cocaine across the border.

STEP 5.
This step is easy...just put the sand bag stack in the ruck sack.
STEP 6.
Fill the rest of the bag up with old clothing. FACT-the more pink dresses you have in there, the harder you can punch.
STEP 7.
Take the cable and weave it through the eye holes on the top of the ruck sack and attach one of the cable clamps to keep it cinched up. Use pliers to tighten the clamps.
STEP 8.
Loop the cable over and attach another cable clamp to close the loop. This is a loop so that we can hang it from the hook that we will attach in the ceiling.
STEP 9.
Pre drill a hole in the ceiling rafter with your drill and attach the vinyl coated hook.
STEP 10.
Hang the bag and punch and kick the ever loving crap out of it.
Congratulations, you are now the Bruce Lee of DIY. Don't forget to see the FULL BUILD VIDEO HERE and always have fun!
